Iran says its missile production and capabilities remain intact despite the ongoing war, as Pakistan reported progress towards restoring a previous memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran.
Pakistan’s interior minister said significant progress had been made during talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, as Islamabad seeks to revive an earlier US-Iran understanding aimed at easing tensions.
The development came after the United States announced a new round of sanctions targeting Iran’s military and economic networks.
The US State Department said the measures target Iranian military officials and weapons procurement networks, as well as shippers and brokers involved in moving Iranian petroleum through countries including China and the United Arab Emirates.
The sanctions also target cyber actors accused of carrying out attacks against critical infrastructure.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington was seeking to cut off financial support for Tehran and urged US allies to back the measures.
Iranian government spokeswoman Fatemeh Mohajerani acknowledged the economic pressure, saying the country’s leadership would guide Iran through the difficulties caused by the latest sanctions.
Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps spokesperson Sardar Mohebbi said the war had disproved claims that Tehran would quickly exhaust its missile stockpiles. “This idea did not come true, because Iran’s missile capability and its production continue.”
Mohebbi said the conflict had instead placed pressure on the strategic weapons reserves of Iran’s adversaries. “What was created for the enemy is the erosion and reduction of strategic weapons reserves, and this erosion in the enemy’s strategic weapons is considered one of the achievements and honours of this war.”
He further claimed that Iran’s military response had forced the United States to reconsider aspects of its military strategy.
Mohebbi argued that Washington’s military doctrine was built around its ability to fight on several fronts simultaneously, but said the conflict had challenged that assumption. “But in this war, we created conditions that made them worry about their ability to manage several fronts.”
The comments came as diplomatic efforts continue alongside escalating economic pressure, with Pakistan seeking to bridge the divide between Tehran and Washington.
The reported progress towards restoring the previous memorandum could provide a potential diplomatic opening, even as the United States continues to impose sanctions and Iran maintains that its military capabilities remain operational.
