Iran has expressed readiness to support Nigeria in its efforts to combat terrorism, describing the country as a partner facing similar security threats.

The Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Gholamreza Mahdavi Raja, said Iran strongly condemns terrorism in all its forms and is willing to cooperate with countries battling insurgency.

Raja made the remarks while addressing Nigeria’s ongoing security challenges, particularly the activities of insurgent groups such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province.

“Iran condemns terrorism of any kind and expresses readiness to cooperate with governments facing it,” the ambassador said.

He noted that Nigeria continues to face significant security threats from terrorist organisations operating in parts of the country, stressing that Iran is prepared to support efforts aimed at tackling the menace.

“Nigeria faces security challenges from Boko Haram and ISWAP, and we are ready to support the government in combating terrorism,” Raja said.

The envoy added that Iran’s position is informed by its own experience with terrorism, describing the country as a victim of such attacks.

“As a victim of terrorism ourselves, we condemn terrorism in Nigeria,” he stated.

Raja emphasised that cooperation between nations confronting similar threats is essential to addressing global terrorism and strengthening security.
