A spokesman for Peter Obi Media Reach, Idris Zekeri Jr., has criticised remarks attributed to presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, describing them as dismissive of widespread concerns among Nigerians over rising hardship.
Speaking with ARISE NEWS on Wednesday, Zekeri Jr. said the comments failed to adequately reflect the severity of challenges relating to hunger, poverty, and security across the country, arguing that such issues remain central to citizens’ daily realities.
“For a spokesperson of the president to come on here and completely disregard these legitimate concerns of Nigerians is most disgraceful, and I’m putting that very lightly,” he said.
Zekeri Jr. also highlighted the harsh reality many Nigerians face, pointing to worsening food insecurity, unemployment, and insecurity across several regions of the country.
“And one of the videos trending online even as we speak now is that the presidential spokesman infamously said that he could not pinpoint the hunger that has now become the major, a bumper, it has now become the major bane of concern of majority of the citizens, for those who are not running from one village to the other for the sake of banditry.
“Now, show him. As we speak today, 35 million Nigerians are facing acute hunger. As a matter of fact, you can form a country of the hungry, make President Tinubu the president, and it will be the same population as Ghana—an entire country of hungry people,” he remarked.
