PDP candidate for Osun Central Senatorial District, Ibrahim Adekunle, has insisted that his party’s ticket remains valid, rejecting attempts by another aspirant to claim the position ahead of the upcoming election.
Speaking in an interview with ARISE News on Tuesday, Adekunle said he emerged winner of the PDP primary election and described efforts to replace him with another candidate as impossible.
“It’s a dream that cannot come true. For the other party that wants to come and claim my ticket, it can’t come to pass,” he said.
Adekunle said the PDP conducted its primary election in Osun Central, where he emerged as the winner, insisting that the outcome remains valid.
“We conducted our own primaries in the PDP, in Osun Central, mid-20th of 2026 this year, of which I actually emerged as the winner of the primaries. I emerged.”
He alleged that the other aspirant seeking to take over the ticket had previously contested the APC primary election before returning to the PDP.
“He has actually contested in primaries in APC on the 18th of May, 2026, which he actually came second out of four aspirants then.”
Adekunle stated that such movement between political parties while pursuing the same electoral ambition amounted to a violation of electoral rules.
“He has violated several electoral laws. Anti-party violation, electoral law violation, he can’t beat two parties at the same time.”
He maintained that he would seek legal redress if the matter was not resolved internally, expressing confidence that the judiciary would uphold his claim to the ticket.
“We’re actually going to approach the court. And of course, I’m one hundred percent sure we’re going to get some justice.”
On concerns over violence ahead of the Osun Central Senatorial election, Adekunle said efforts by stakeholders had helped reduce tensions in the state.
“The reason why I said it actually happens in every election is so that people won’t start painting Osun bad. We don’t want people to have the intention that Osun is a bad state where they kill each other.”
He attributed some of the political tension to the significance of the election ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“Osun election is really like that. The reason why it’s really like that is it’s actually an election before the presidential election.”
Adekunle also expressed confidence in the electoral process, saying technology would make it difficult to manipulate results.
“Every result is actually going to be transmitted, and if anything goes out, of course, everybody will know.”
