‘I Was Not in Control of My Charity’: Naomi Campbell Speaks Out After Disqualification Ruling

Naomi Campbell responds after being barred from being a trustee due to poor governance of her charity.

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has stated that she was not in charge of her charity, after being disqualified from her role as a trustee for five years due to findings of significant financial mismanagement by the Charity Commission.

Campbell addressed reporters to discuss the recent findings of the Charity Commission, and expressed her deep concerns, stating, “I was not in control of my charity.”

The supermodel was prohibited from serving as a charity trustee in England and Wales, following a Thursday ruling that criticized the governance and financial management of the poverty charity she established nearly 20 years ago.

Reports revealed that the organization spent £12,000 on a flight to Nice for the transfer of art and jewellery, in addition to a lavish hotel stay costing £7,800 for the model.

Two other trustees, Bianka Hellmich and Veronica Chou, face longer bans of nine years and four years, respectively.

An inquiry revealed that unauthorized consultancy payments amounting to £290,000 were made to Hellmich, violating the charity’s constitution. Although Hellmich offered to repay the funds, interim managers appointed by the Commission ensured that the charity received the repayments.
