Brooklyn Peltz Beckham has publicly declared that he no longer wants a relationship with his famous parents, David and Victoria Beckham, accusing them of controlling his life, manipulating media narratives and attempting to sabotage his marriage to actress Nicola Peltz Beckham.
The 26 year old, eldest son of the former England captain, made the revelations in a series of Instagram story posts on Monday, where he addressed long running speculation about tension within the Beckham family and explained why he decided to speak out after years of silence.
Tension between Brooklyn and the Beckham family has simmered publicly since his 2022 marriage to Nicola Peltz Beckham, with reported disagreements over wedding arrangements, business control and media narratives. The rift deepened as Brooklyn increasingly skipped family events and distanced himself from public celebrations involving his parents, fuelling speculation online. His decision to speak out followed renewed tabloid coverage portraying him as isolated from his family and controlled by his wife, a narrative he said pushed him to finally respond.
Explaining his decision, Brooklyn wrote:
“I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private. Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed. I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
He accused his parents of shaping public perception of the family while privately damaging relationships, adding:
“For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into… I have seen with my own eyes the lengths that they’ll go through to place countless lies in the media, mostly at the expense of innocent people, to preserve their own facade. But I believe the truth always comes out.”
Much of Brooklyn’s statement focused on his marriage to Nicola Peltz Beckham, whom he said has been repeatedly disrespected by his family. He alleged that interference began before their wedding, including issues over Nicola’s dress and business arrangements.
Brooklyn claimed: “My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding… My mum cancelled making Nicola’s dress in the eleventh hour despite how excited she was to wear her design, forcing her to urgently find a new dress.”
He further alleged financial pressure before the ceremony, writing: “Weeks before our big day, my parents repeatedly pressured and attempted to bribe me into signing away the rights to my name, which would have affected me, my wife, and our future children… My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since.”
Peltz Beckham also described emotional moments from the wedding itself, including seating arrangements and remarks made about his wife, “During the wedding planning, my mum went so far as to call me ‘evil’ because Nicola and I chose to include my Nanny Sandra, and Nicola’s Naunni at our table, because they both didn’t have their husbands.”
He alleged further hostility the night before the ceremony: “Members of my family told me that Nicola was ‘not blood’ and ‘not family.’”
One of the most dramatic claims concerned the couple’s first dance, which Brooklyn said was taken over by his mother in front of guests.
“My mum hijacked my first dance with my wife, which had been planned weeks in advance to a romantic love song… Marc Anthony called me to the stage… but instead my mum was waiting to dance with me instead. She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”
He said the experience led him and Nicola to later renew their vows so they could create memories free from stress and embarrassment.
Beyond the wedding, Brooklyn described strained efforts to maintain contact with his father, including a failed attempt to spend time with him during his birthday celebration in London.
“We still travelled to London for my dad’s birthday and were rejected for a week as we waited in our hotel room trying to plan quality time with him… When he finally agreed to see me, it was under the condition that Nicola wasn’t invited. It was a slap in the face.”
Brooklyn also accused his family of prioritising branding over genuine relationships. “My family values public promotion and endorsements above all else. Brand Beckham comes first. Family ‘love’ is decided by how much you post on social media.”
He added that even Nicola’s request for support for displaced dogs during Los Angeles fires was ignored: “But the one time my wife asked for my mum’s support to save displaced dogs during the LA fires, my mum refused.”
Addressing claims that his wife controls him, Brooklyn rejected the narrative, saying the opposite was true. “The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life. I grew up with overwhelming anxiety. For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared.”
He concluded by outlining what he and Nicola want moving forward: “My wife and I do not want a life shaped by image, press, or manipulation. All we want peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family.”
Neither David nor Victoria Beckham has publicly responded to Brooklyn’s statements, though the family has long been the subject of speculation about internal divisions since Brooklyn’s 2022 marriage to Nicola Peltz Beckham.
