Habibu Mohammad: Kwankwaso Leaving NNPP Means Party Is Dead, He’s Now The Face Of ADC In Kano

Spokesperson Kwankwasiyya Movement Habibu Mohammad says Kwankwaso leaving NNPP means it’s “dead”, and he now leads ADC in Kano.

The Spokesperson of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Habibu Mohammad has said that Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s exit from NNPP leaves it “effectively dead”, while also positioning him as ADC’s Kano leader.

Recall that Kwankwaso formally resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP) on 29th March, 2026, and officially joined the African Democratic Congress, (ADC) on Monday 30th, March 2026.

Kwankwaso was the National Leader of the NNPP and founder of the political structure, the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Mohammad said: “Everybody knows that the NNPP is synonymous with Kwankwaso, and him leaving NNPP automatically means that the NNPP is actually dead in Kano and maybe beyond Kano; it might be seen to be dead across the nation. And as for the second question—what does Kwankwaso mean to ADC now—just like what he meant for the NNPP in Kano, Kwankwaso will now be seen to be ADC in Kano State.”

Adding, Mohammad revealed Kwankwaso’s move to the ADC is drawing politicians from neighbouring states, strengthening ADC locally and nationally ahead of the 2027 elections.

“And I believe from the recent happenings, it’s going to be a very interesting scenario in Kano because not only that we have gotten Gawuna now, there are several others that are actually going to come along. And this is the result of the fact that so many people believe that this is the man with principle, and he’s the man that doesn’t actually meander—he goes straight to the point.

“Naturally, there is going to be a lot of influx into the ADC, and by extension, that will also translate into a big gain for the ADC at the national level. I believe from the statistics, the ADC itself accepted the fact that there is a serious surge in the membership registration 24 hours after it’s certain that Kwankwaso is going to join them. And I think there is going to be a spillover. If you look at the people that are there, you have all the bigwigs from the Katsina State, from Zamfara State, from Jigawa State, and already a lot of negotiation, discussion, alignment, and realignment are actually taking place in all these neighboring states—the Kwankwasiyya movement and some that are not even members of the Kwankwasiyya, but those that have respect and seriously require a direction, a leader that can lead them, are actually working their way into the ADC and trying also to put in their very best to ensure ADC wins big, not only in Kano but across the nation,” he revealed.

Dismissing claims of alleged internal division in the ADC, Mohammad said members remain united, strengthening the party under Kwankwaso’s leadership in Kano and beyond.

“As far as I am concerned, I don’t think there is such a narrative because I was part of the people that sat with the old ADC, and I was also the one that actually led a meeting yesterday with several members of the ADC, and they are also with Kwankwaso yesterday, and even today all of them are there at the same function. And I have never heard of any rift actually in ADC up to this particular moment in time,” he said.

Muhammad also said the Kwankwasiyya movement’s strength comes from its collective ideology, focusing on delivering for the people, not just one individual.

“We move as a movement, and we believe that movement has a defined ideology which is rooted into the aspiration of the downtrodden. Anybody who has been assigned that responsibility following the script of Kwankwasiyya movement, we believe is going to deliver. So it’s not just about one-man thing or one-man show as it were, or as it is with the APC,” he concluded.
