Governor Otu Celebrates Cross River Women, Reaffirms Commitment To Economic Empowerment

Governor Otu praises Cross River women on International Women’s Day, pledges continued policies supporting empowerment and inclusion.

Governor Bassey Edet Otu of Cross River State has paid tribute to women across the state as the world marks International Women’s Day, commending their resilience and contributions to social and economic development.

In a message issued by his Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Linus Obogo, the governor described women as key drivers of progress in agriculture, commerce, education and public service.

Otu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding opportunities for women across critical sectors of the economy.

He said the state government has prioritised policies and programmes aimed at strengthening women’s participation in agriculture, entrepreneurship, education and technology, noting that empowering women remains both a social responsibility and an economic strategy for sustainable development.

According to him, the role women play in advancing economic growth and community development cannot be overstated.

The governor also referenced the State of Women’s Economic Empowerment report by BudgIT, which ranked Cross River among the leading states promoting women’s economic inclusion.

He said the recognition validates his administration’s investments in agriculture, education, innovation and the creative economy.

Otu congratulated women across the state—including farmers, traders, professionals and community leaders—for their dedication and contributions to the development of the state.

He assured them of continued government support through policies designed to expand economic opportunities and strengthen their role in the state’s development.

The governor emphasised that empowering women would remain central to his administration’s development agenda.
