Donald Trump has said discussions at the 2026 G7 summit were “very good” following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as leaders gathered to address global security, economic stability, and ongoing conflicts.
Speaking during a live update from the summit venue, Trump noted that the engagement with Zelenskyy was constructive, highlighting what he described as “positive progress” in dialogue between the United States and Ukraine.
The meeting came as G7 leaders continued a series of high-level sessions focused on international cooperation, energy security, and efforts to manage escalating geopolitical tensions. Officials say Ukraine’s war with Russia remained a central topic behind closed doors.
According to diplomatic sources, the discussion between Trump and Zelenskyy touched on military assistance, long-term reconstruction plans, and strategies for strengthening regional defence capabilities. No formal agreement was announced immediately after the talks.
Other world leaders at the summit also held bilateral meetings, with emphasis placed on coordinating economic policy and addressing global supply chain pressures. Analysts say the tone of this year’s gathering has been cautiously optimistic despite ongoing global uncertainties.
