Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has dismissed speculation of disagreement between him and members of the State House of Assembly.
Governor Fubara made the assertion while addressing his supporters during the inauguration of the Ahoada-Omoku road dualised by his administration, Wednesday.
Fubara explained that he has not yet met with the lawmakers because arrangements are still being coordinated by relevant leaders.
He refuted claims that he is unwilling to meet the lawmakers or fulfill their requests, and assured that commitment to meeting their demands for the sake of peace, development, and progress in the state.
The governor also expressed concern over biased reporting, lamenting that his side of the story is often overlooked. “The peace of the state is not about me, but for the overall interest of Rivers. I urge all stakeholders, especially the lawmakers, to work together for the state’s development,” he said.
Fubara emphasised: “Whoever is telling you that I don’t want to meet with the members of the State House of Assembly is not telling the whole truth. I met with our leaders, and they are arranging a meeting. I don’t want to bypass them, as it could appear divisive. I am a gentleman and principled.
“We cannot thrive in an atmosphere of rancour. Development cannot come to our state when there is continuous disunity, and you’re also aware that we are standing because of the support of Mr President.
“I would also want to add this, I personally do not have any disagreement or any anger anywhere with my members in the National Assembly; even that of the state here. Let me be very particular, the state members of the House of Assembly, I do not have any issue with all of them.
“I have made every effort, I believe that leadership of the State elders council that is headed by Chief Ferdinand Anabraba can attest to this. I have made every effort to meet with them but the arrangement wasn’t for me to call them directly. It was for my leader, the Minister to arrange the meeting which up till this hour that meeting had not been fixed.”
While addressing the political landscape, the governor pledged to lead the Renewed Hope campaign for President Bola Tinubu in the state, recalling that he met with the President and subsequently moved his supporters to the APC to strengthen Rivers’ relationship with the federal government.
He credited President Tinubu’s support as a factor in his administration’s stability and said the Renewed Hope campaign is now active in Rivers with “unimaginable vigour.”
Governor Fubara inaugurated the 28.4-kilometer dualised road extension from Ahoada to Omoku, a project he had promised to complete during the first phase commissioned by his predecessor, Chief Nyesom Wike.
He noted that the project would boost economic activities in the Orashi region and enhance security.
Describing the project, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Dr. Austin Hart, said the road was previously a single lane and has now been dualised to 14.6 meters wide, complete with solar-powered streetlights.
He highlighted that the road significantly reduces travel time between Ahoada and Omoku while improving economic activity in the region.
