Fubara Deceived Us, Boasted Tinubu Would Force Wike To Back His Re-Election, Says PDP Faction

A PDP faction in Rivers says Governor Siminalayi Fubara misled party leaders, defected under false assurances, and must disclose the full terms of presidential peace deals.

A factional Caretaker Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Dr. Robinson Ewor, has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of deceiving party leaders into believing he could wrest political control from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, only to later defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt on Thursday, Ewor alleged that Fubara misled party stakeholders with claims that President Bola Tinubu would compel the Rivers State House of Assembly to pass the state budget and also force Wike to support his re-election bid.

According to him, the governor’s defection to the APC in December 2025 amounted to abandoning the PDP “in the middle of a political sea” after raising false expectations among party loyalists.

“We were deceived. The governor led us to believe he had the capacity to wrest political control from Wike. Instead, he dumped the party after boasting that Tinubu would force Wike to work for his re-election,” Ewor said.
Ewor demanded that Governor Fubara publicly disclose the full details of the peace agreements brokered by President Tinubu before the lifting of emergency rule in Rivers State, arguing that the people deserve transparency.

“The mandate he holds belongs to the people of Rivers State. Every agreement he entered into affects them. It is incumbent on him to disclose the full terms of the peace deal brokered by the President,” he stated.

He recalled that political disagreements between the governor and the State House of Assembly escalated into the bombing of the Assembly complex, leading to a peace pact and, eventually, the declaration of a state of emergency in March 2025.

While noting that an earlier peace agreement was documented, Ewor said the later agreement reached during the emergency rule was undocumented and kept from the public.
Ewor also raised concerns over the PDP’s 2025 National Convention in Ibadan, where the Rivers State executive committee was dissolved, noting that Governor Fubara—then still a PDP member—directed the state delegation to attend but failed to show up himself.

He described the governor’s actions as “double standards” and questioned whether Fubara defected only after realising he could not gain control of the PDP structure in the state.

On the composition of the current caretaker committee, Ewor said it was duly constituted by the PDP National Working Committee in December 2025, with nominations from senior party leaders in the state.

Ewor further referenced Wike’s recent “thank-you” visits to Rivers local governments, during which the FCT minister alleged that Governor Fubara reneged on key terms of a peace deal, including agreements related to appointments and succession plans.

While acknowledging that Fubara’s re-election ambition is now an APC matter, Ewor insisted that Rivers people must be told the full truth about the agreements reached before the presidency.

“Accountability demands disclosure. Rivers people must know what was agreed upon so they can make informed decisions ahead of 2027,” he said.

Ewor disclosed that he has aligned with Wike in support of President Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
