The Bauchi State Police Command has said that one person has been killed following a clash between herders and farmers at Guda Village in Ningi Local Government Area Area of the State.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, a Superintendent of Police, in a statement made available to journalists on Friday, said that the incident happened on 23rd September, 2026.
“On 23rd September, 2026 at about 0740hrs, three farmers from Guda Village went to their farms on Guda Hill and found cattle belonging to a herder grazing on and destroying their crops.
“They chased the cattle to the herders’ settlement where an argument ensued and degenerated into a fight. In the process, the three farmers sustained injuries. Sadly, in retaliation, some youths from Guda Village mobilized and set ablaze houses at the herders settlement.
“Operatives from Ningi Division responded promptly, restored normalcy and evacuated the injured to General Hospital Ningi. Unfortunately, one of them, Usman Jibrin, 40 years old, later died while receiving treatment,” he stated.
He said that through intelligence-led efforts, the Command’s operatives, on 8th October, 2026, arrested four suspects in connection with the offences of Criminal Conspiracy, Causing Grievous Hurt, Mischief by Fire and Culpable Homicide.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the suspects be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Bauchi for a thorough and discreet investigation.
“The CP, while commiserating with the bereaved family and those who lost property, assures the good people of Bauchi State that no one will be allowed to take the law into his own hands. He assures that justice will be served and urges all communities to embrace dialogue and peaceful coexistence, especially between farmers and herders.”
