Foreign Affairs Minister Confirms President Tinubu’s Visit To Qatar Amidst Doubt Clouding Visit

Tuggar said that Nigeria and Qatar have long standing relationship, and Tinubu’s visit will help build the relationship,

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, has confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Qatar will go on as scheduled despite misgivings and circulations making rounds in the media which have cast doubt on the state of this visit.

This came after the Qatari government had, in a letter to Nigeria’s ministry of foreign affairs on Thursday, disclosed that it would not be able to welcome the president and hold the proposed forum on March 2 and 3 due to the lack of a legally binding agreement between Qatar and Nigeria for the promotion of investment.

In a statement that was released on Saturday by the ministry’s spokesperson, Francisca Omayuli, the ministry affirmed that the visit will hold between the 2nd and 3rd of March where the leaders of both countries will have several discussions pertaining to strategic, diplomatic and economic issues.

The statement also said that Nigeria and Qatar have had a long history of friendship and bilateral relationships.

The statement read, “The Federal Republic of Nigeria and the State of Qatar have a long history of friendship and close bilateral relations. The forthcoming visit to Doha by HE President Tinubu will help build on this important relationship.

“The Ministry is aware of the circulation in the media of diplomatic correspondence and wishes to confirm that it will not comment on leaks.”
