A man stabbed five people in central Amsterdam on Thursday before being arrested by Dutch police. Authorities said the suspect, who sustained a leg injury, was apprehended shortly after the attack.
Among the victims were a 67-year-old woman and a 69-year-old man, both American nationals. A 26-year-old Polish man, a 73-year-old Belgian woman, and a 19-year-old Dutch woman were also injured.
“The motive behind the attack is currently unclear and under investigation,” Dutch police said in a statement, adding that they are considering the possibility that the victims were randomly targeted.
The attack took place in the afternoon, prompting a swift police response. Authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the suspect or whether the incident is linked to terrorism.
