First Lady Tinubu Seeks Enhanced Mentorship For Girls In Golf, Named Grand Patron Of AACT Nigeria 2026

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called for greater mentorship for girls in golf after being named Grand Patron of AACT Nigeria 2026.

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has called for enhanced mentorship for girls in golf, saying greater support could help nurture future world champions in the sport.

Mrs Tinubu made the call on Tuesday while being decorated as Grand Patron of the All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT), Nigeria 2026, at the State House, Abuja.

She commended the Lady Golfers for their proposed Girls in Golf Legacy Project, under which the association intends to mentor and nurture 300 girls in the sport.

According to the First Lady, some of the girls could someday become world champions, noting that becoming an accomplished golfer requires discipline, commitment and dedication — qualities she said could also help prepare young people for a formidable future.

Mrs Tinubu congratulated the Lady Golfers on securing the hosting rights for the tournament, noting its potential to boost tourism and economic activities in Nigeria.

The First Lady was decorated by the Ladies Golf Association of Nigeria as part of efforts to build national support for the championship, scheduled to hold in Abuja in November 2026.
Earlier, President of the Court of Appeal and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Justice Monica Mensem, commended Mrs Tinubu for her initiatives supporting girls and women in the country.

President of the Association, Dr Lami Onayi Ahmed, also sought the First Lady’s endorsement of the tournament and requested that she perform the opening ceremony and ceremonial tee-off for the championship.

Ahmed and Mensem subsequently decorated Mrs Tinubu as Grand Patron of the All Africa Challenge Trophy, Nigeria 2026, a premier women’s amateur golf championship scheduled to hold in Abuja from November 2 to 7.

Mrs Tinubu thereafter began her new role with a symbolic tee-off using a golf practice kit in her office.

Nigeria secured the hosting rights in Morocco following a competitive bid and is expected to host women golfers from about 30 countries at the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Abuja.

It will be the third time Nigeria hosts the continental tournament.
