The trial of Adeniyi Adeyemi, the alleged fake Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), has been transferred to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for fresh arraignment.
Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday struck out the eight-count criminal charge filed against Adeyemi by the Federal Government, paving the way for the case to proceed before the FCT High Court.
At Monday’s proceedings, the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation (DPPF), Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, moved an application to terminate the existing charges.
Oyedepo told the court that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reviewed the case file and the charge filed by the Inspector General of Police and identified loopholes.
He explained that some of the documents allegedly forged by Adeyemi during the operations of the purported agency fell within the jurisdiction of the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.
The prosecution informed the court that a fresh charge had already been filed at the FCT High Court, where Adeyemi would be arraigned again. Oyedepo consequently urged Justice Umar to strike out the existing charge in accordance with the law.
Defence counsel Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, did not oppose the application. Justice Umar subsequently terminated the charges.
Adeyemi, 38, had been standing trial alongside two other defendants whose whereabouts remain unknown. They were identified only as Femi and Anu, with their surnames unknown.
The defendants faced charges bordering on conspiracy and forgery.
