Billionaire Elon Musk and Britain’s Prince Andrew have been named in newly released files linked to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The partial records were turned over to the House Oversight Committee by the Epstein Estate and made public by Congressional Democrats.
The documents include flight manifests, phone logs, financial ledgers, and Epstein’s personal schedules. Among the entries is a December 2014 note reading, “Reminder: Elon Musk to island Dec. 6 (is this still happening?).” Musk has previously said he was invited to Epstein’s island but declined the offer.
A flight manifest dated May 2000 lists Prince Andrew as a passenger on a trip from New Jersey to Florida alongside Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell, who was later convicted of conspiring with Epstein to traffic underage girls. Separate ledger entries from February and May 2000 reference payments for massages for an “Andrew,” though it is unclear whether this refers to the prince. Buckingham Palace records indicate Andrew was in the US at the time for official engagements. The Duke of York has consistently denied any wrongdoing.
The files also mention meetings or planned engagements with other high-profile figures, including internet entrepreneur Peter Thiel, former White House adviser Steve Bannon, and Microsoft founder Bill Gates. In 2022, Gates described his own contact with Epstein as a “mistake.” There is no suggestion that those named were aware of Epstein’s alleged criminal activities.
Sara Guerrero, a spokesperson for Democrats on the committee, said the new documents underscore Epstein’s powerful connections. “It should be clear to every American that Jeffrey Epstein was friends with some of the most powerful and wealthiest men in the world. Every new document produced provides new information as we work to bring justice for the survivors and victims,” she stated.
Republicans accused Democrats of politicising the disclosures, saying they intend to release the full set of records soon. Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
