Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, is once again stirring controversy this time by challenging the US government’s latest findings in the Jeffrey Epstein case.
In a post late Sunday on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Musk fired off a jab at federal authorities, “What’s the time? Oh look, it’s no-one-has-been-arrested-o’clock again,” he wrote, reacting to a newly released Department of Justice memo.
The memo, released by the DOJ and FBI over the weekend, asserts that disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein did not maintain a “little black book” or client list used for blackmail, and reaffirms the long-contested conclusion that Epstein was not murdered in jail.
Musk’s reaction didn’t end there. He replied to and reposted several skeptical takes, including one by conservative commentator Jack Posobiec, who wrote, “If there were no clients, why is Ghislaine Maxwell still in jail?”
Musk responded in apparent agreement, fanning fresh speculation.
Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s former partner, was convicted of sex trafficking including trafficking a minor and is currently serving a 20-year sentence in a Florida prison.
Epstein was found dead in a Manhattan jail cell in August 2019 while awaiting trial. His death was officially ruled a suicide, though speculation of foul play has lingered. The latest memo includes jailhouse footage that authorities say rules out outside interference in the hours before his death.
Musk’s recent posts are his first major comments on the case since claiming last month that President Donald Trump was named in Epstein-related documents, an assertion that drew headlines but no substantiating evidence.
His reemergence into the discourse this week comes as public frustration over the lack of high-profile arrests continues to mount. Though several powerful figures have been linked to Epstein through social or business connections, no one other than Maxwell has faced prosecution tied to his trafficking ring.
The DOJ memo, meant to close the book on persistent conspiracy theories, may instead be opening a new chapter, one now amplified by Musk’s enormous online reach.
