Police have deployed personnel and tactical assets to 2,545 polling units ahead of Saturday’s Ekiti governorship election.

The Nigeria Police Force has intensified security preparations ahead of the Ekiti State Governorship Election, deploying personnel and tactical assets across the state to ensure a peaceful, credible and orderly electoral process on Saturday, 20 June 2026.

As part of the comprehensive security arrangement, police deployments have been extended to all 2,545 polling units across the state, as well as critical infrastructure, major entry and exit routes, border communities and other strategic locations identified as vital to the success of the election.

Providing an update on the Force’s level of preparedness, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Election Security, CP Shogule Abayomi, disclosed that a robust and multi-layered security framework has been put in place to safeguard the electoral process from commencement to conclusion.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, CP Abayomi stated that security personnel and operational assets have been strategically positioned across polling units and other key locations to guarantee the safety of voters, electoral officials, election observers and sensitive materials throughout the exercise.

The statement further noted that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, assured Nigerians that all officers deployed for election duties had been adequately briefed on their responsibilities and rules of engagement.

The IGP reaffirmed that personnel would carry out their duties professionally, impartially and strictly in accordance with the law to ensure a free and fair electoral process.

The Nigeria Police Force also warned that electoral offences and any actions capable of undermining the integrity of the election would be dealt with in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act and other relevant laws. Citizens were therefore urged to remain peaceful, law-abiding and committed to the democratic process throughout the election period.

To facilitate prompt response to security concerns, members of the public have been encouraged to utilise the dedicated election emergency line, which will remain operational throughout the exercise.

The Force also urged eligible voters to turn out peacefully and exercise their constitutional rights without fear or intimidation, while cautioning against the circulation of unverified information capable of causing panic or disrupting public order.

Reaffirming its commitment to the protection of lives and property, the Nigeria Police Force assured residents of Ekiti State of adequate security measures aimed at ensuring a free, fair, credible and peaceful governorship election.
