DHL Cargo Jet Makes Emergency Landing After Mid-Air Strike Near Leipzig

A DHL cargo aircraft safely landed in Hanover after striking an unidentified object shortly after take-off from Leipzig, prompting investigations.

A DHL cargo aircraft made an emergency landing in Hanover after reportedly colliding with an unidentified object shortly after take-off from Leipzig Airport, a source familiar with the incident told Reuters on Wednesday.

The crew diverted the aircraft as a precaution following the mid-air impact, and the plane landed safely. There were no immediate reports of injuries or details on the extent of damage to the aircraft.

German police separately said they were investigating a suspicious object discovered near a runway at Leipzig Airport following an overnight security incident that temporarily disrupted operations.

Authorities have not established any link between the object found near the runway and the reported mid-air collision involving the DHL aircraft.

Investigators are working to determine what the cargo plane struck and whether the incident has broader aviation safety or security implications.
