Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote group, Aliko Dangote has said Nigeria will by 2021 become the largest exporter of cement in Africa, a feat he said was not possible ten years ago.

The billionaire businessman spoke during the virtual commemoration of Nigeria’s 60th anniversary organised by the THISDAY ARISE Group on Thursday, October 1.

Dangote, who is Africa’s richest man, said by next year, the country will also become the largest exporter of fertilizer in Africa.

“We used to import lots of cement but today we at Dangote Group alone have over 32 million tonnes of cement. For the first time in the last ten years, Nigeria is a net exporter of cement as we speak today.

“And by next year Nigeria will become the largest exporter of cement in Africa. So you can see from import to now export and we are now self sufficient at home,” Dangote said.

He continued, “What we are doing in refining and petrochemical, we are doing 650,000 barrels per day of refining capacity, so Nigeria will be a net exporter of petroleum products by the time we finish our refinery.

“Nigeria will also be the second largest in terms of petrochemicals in Africa,” he said.
