CRPP Threatens Edo Governor With Court Action Over Proposed State-Owned Airline

CRPP warns Governor Okpebholo to halt Edo Airline project, citing insecurity, unemployment, and neglected infrastructure across the state.

The Conference of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has threatened to sue the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, if he goes ahead to implement the initiative to float Edo Airline.

The registered parties urged the governor to stop “all these wasteful spendings that are not beneficial to the people of Edo State”, saying the registered parties are ready to take Okpebholo to court, if he goes ahead to “implement the so-called Edo Airline” project

The CRPP expressed apprehension over the government’s intention’ to float a state-owned airline.

In a press statement on Wednesday, CRPP said it was appalled at the initiative, wondering how the state government would rake in funds to establish such a capital-intensive venture.

The statement signed by its regional president, Dr. Samson Isibor, wondered why Okpebholo’s government will ignore road construction, insecurity and poverty in the state to embark on such ”white elephant project.”

According to the body, “CRPP is not happy with the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpeholo, prioritising some self-adulation projects” which should not be a priority of any government.

CRPP stressed that Edo Air is not people-oriented, and has no bearing for the survival of the people of Edo State, and therefore should not be executed.

It said the project is uncalled for and should be discarded immediately.

According to it, there are hundreds of state roads including federal begging for rehabilitations, especially in the rural areas whereby many of the populace have been cut off.

“Many villages have no roads to bring their farm produce to the urban areas for sale. Insecurity in the state is increasing daily and unabated, thousands of our youths are unemployed thereby adding to the insecurity in the state, yet we have a governor, who is not bothered about the plight and poor conditions of life in the state.”

The statement stated further: “There is no any agenda for the masses in Edo State, since Okpeholo assumed office, everybody is lamenting the critical situation in Edo State, the governor should tell us what the masses have benefited since he assumed office.”

The body raised a number of posers for the governor: “How much does it cost to acquire one airline e.g Boeing 707; What happened to about N100b loan approval by the rubber stamp House of Assembly; Is it productive to establish an airline that will cost the state over N5 trillion,” among others.
