Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has said the country’s economy is too fragile for another COVID-19 induced lockdown.

The Nigerian leader has however called on citizens to observe measures that have been prescribed by the country’s National Centre for Disease Control to avoid an increase in cases of infections.

President Buhari on Thursday stated this on his verified Twitter handle @MBuhari.

“Looking at the trends in other countries, we must do all we can to avert a second wave of Covid-19 in Nigeria. We must make sure that our cases, which have gone down, do not rise again.

“Our economy is too fragile to bear another round of lockdown,” said Buhari

Earlier this year, Nigeria had imposed a total lockdown on parts of the country and lasted for more than five weeks. The lockdown, however, had a huge effect on the country’s economy.
