Court Orders NDLEA To Produce KayCee Luxury Over Continued Detention Without Charge

A Lagos court orders NDLEA to produce socialite KayCee Luxury after 14 days in custody without formal charge or arraignment.

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to produce Afolabi Kazeem Micheal, the socialite popularly known as ‘KayCee Luxury’, in court over his continued detention without a formal charge.

The court issued the order after Afolabi filed an ex parte application through his counsel, A. Labi-Lawal, SAN, under the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009.

The application followed the NDLEA’s failure to formally charge and arraign Afolabi within 14 days of his detention.

Afolabi was arrested by NDLEA operatives on August 13 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while preparing to travel to Paris.

The agency has yet to formally arraign him in court, prompting the application seeking judicial intervention over his continued detention.

The court’s order requires the NDLEA to produce Afolabi before it as the legal proceedings over his detention continue.
