Pandemonium broke out on Monday at the National Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commisson (INEC) in Abuja as thugs allegedly hired by yet-to-be-identified persons attacked
Ugbarajo Itsekiri Youths protesting agaii what they described unjust delineation of Warri federal constituency in Delta State.
The Itsekiri youths numbering about 200 had converged on INEC Headquarters in Abuja demanding justice from the commission.
They carried placards with different inscriptions including ‘INEC must protect indigenous communities’; Warri federal constituency is not for sale’;
‘Justice for Itsekiri Communities Now’ and ‘Dollars Cannot Buy Our Land.’
But as the protest continued, the thugs swooped on them with sticks, destroying their placards in the process.
A frightened INEC National Commissioner, Prof Abdullahi Zuru and journalists scampered for safety and retreated.
He later came back and addressed the protesters with an assurance that the matter is already before the office of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu and is looking into it.
The Legal Adviser of Itsekiri Youths Worldwide, Solomon Ogholaja; National Secretary, Laura Oritseweyinmi and Secretary-General, Jakpah Jolomi, vowed to lay down their lives to get justice from INEC and the Nigerian Government.
