Britney Spears Pleads Guilty To Reckless Driving After DUI Arrest In California

Britney Spears pleads guilty to reckless driving charge after DUI arrest, avoids jail time and receives probation sentence.

Britney Spears has pleaded guilty to reckless driving after her arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence in California.

The 44-year-old will avoid jail after accepting a reduced charge. Her lawyer, Michael Goldstein, entered the plea on her behalf in court on Monday. Spears did not attend the hearing.

Authorities said she was arrested on 4 March on a southern California highway after driving her BMW “erratically at a high rate of speed”.

Her representatives described the incident as “completely inexcusable”.

“Through her plea today, Britney has accepted responsibility for her conduct,” Goldstein said.

“She has taken significant steps to implement positive change which is clearly reflected in the Ventura County District Attorney’s decision to reduce the charge in this case and dismiss the DUI,” he added.

Spears pleaded guilty to what is known as a “wet reckless” charge. She will serve 12 months’ probation, complete a DUI class, and pay fines.

Prosecutors said this outcome is standard for first-time offenders with no crash, injury, or high blood-alcohol level.
