A British national has miraculously survived the Air India crash that claimed the lives of over 200 people, according to Indian police.
Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik confirmed to Indian news agency ANI that there was a single survivor from the London-bound Air India Boeing 787-8 flight, which went down moments after take-off. The man, identified as Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, had been seated in 11A.
Indian media outlets report that Mr Ramesh is currently hospitalised and receiving treatment. He is said to have told reporters: “Thirty seconds after take-off, there was a loud noise and then the plane crashed. It all happened so quickly.”
Local journalists said Mr Ramesh shared a copy of his boarding pass showing his name and seat number, further confirming his identity as the sole survivor.
The doomed flight, bound for Gatwick Airport, was carrying 230 people, including 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese citizens, and one Canadian. Air India said the aircraft crashed into a building used by doctors shortly after departure.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the disaster, while the hospital treating Mr Ramesh has yet to release an official update on his condition.
