British boxer Raven Chapman is recovering after undergoing emergency surgery for a brain bleed after collapsing during a sparring session in Denmark, her management team, Vote Boxing, confirmed on Wednesday.
The 32 years old fighter suffered the medical emergency on July 24 while training and was rushed to hospital. Doctors later diagnosed her with a brain haematoma and cerebral oedema, conditions caused by bleeding and swelling in the brain.
According to a statement released by Vote Boxing on Instagram, Chapman was taken into emergency surgery immediately after arriving at the hospital.
“The operation successfully stopped the bleeding and stabilised the swelling. Raven was then placed into a medically induced coma,” the management team said.
The statement added that Chapman has since been taken off sedatives and remains under close medical supervision as she continues treatment in Denmark.
Doctors are now preparing for her medically supervised transfer to a hospital in the United Kingdom, where she is expected to begin what is likely to be a lengthy rehabilitation process.
Vote Boxing said members of Chapman’s family have remained by her side throughout her recovery in Denmark.
A GoFundMe campaign has also been launched to help cover medical and related expenses, while tributes and messages of support have poured in from across the boxing community, including former promoter Frank Warren.
Chapman last fought for the WBC featherweight world title against Australia’s Skye Nicolson in 2024, becoming part of the first women’s world title bout held in Saudi Arabia. She lost the contest by unanimous decision.
The British boxer holds a professional record of 10 victories and two defeats.
