
In Imo State, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson celebrated the economic and professional ties between the U.K. and Nigeria, describing the relationship as mutually beneficial.
He also referenced the Leader of the Conservative Party, Kemi Badenoch, joking that while Britain sends former Prime Ministers to Nigeria, Nigeria sends future Prime Ministers to the U.K., with some on social media calling out Nigerian leaders’ inability to advance Nigeria’s long-term interests with the global economy.
At the same event, Vice President Kashim Shettima described Igbos as the greatest stakeholders in the Nigerian project while highlighting their widespread economic influence across the country.
Meanwhile, business mogul Aliko Dangote announced that his conglomerate would become one of Imo State’s biggest investors, while former Afrexim Bank President Benedict Oramah revealed that the bank is building a compliance facility in the state.
In another development, the Akwa Ibom State Government issued a rebuttal to the International Press Institute Nigeria after it accused Governor Umo Eno of alleged press freedom violations.
The IPI had blacklisted Governor Eno for allegedly barring Channels Television reporters from the Government House Press Centre, with the Akwa Ibom state government now demanding a retraction and public apology.
In a positive development, the IPI honoured the Director-General of the Department of State Services Adeola Ajayi, stating that because of his leadership the agency has engaged constructively with media houses.
Still in Akwa Ibom, the police charged a man named David Effiong for violating Governor Umo Eno’s recent ban on masquerade activities.
It comes as the State House of Assembly rejected a motion to stop the consumption and sale of dog meat, leading to questions about the state government’s priorities.
