Special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has called for a full-scale investigation into former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai over what it describes as a televised confession to illegally wire-tapping Nigeria’s National Security Adviser.
In a post on X, Onanuga said “El-Rufai confesses to wire-tapping Nigeria’s NSA on TV. Does it mean that he and his collaborators have wire-tapping facilities? This should be thoroughly investigated and punishment meted out. El-Rufai is not too big to face the wrath of the law.”
He also called for a full investigation into claims of illegal surveillance made by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, following his explosive interview with ARISE News on Friday.
In the interview, El-Rufai alleged that the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, ordered his arrest after what he described as a failed attempt to detain him at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Thursday.
He accused the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) of using the Department of State Services (DSS) to execute the operation, claiming Ribadu personally authorised the action.
El-Rufai further alleged that he had knowledge of the plan because his team intercepted communications, stating: “We listened to their calls.”
Reacting on Friday via X, formerly Twitter, Onanuga, described the remarks as a confession to unlawful surveillance and called for immediate legal scrutiny.
“El-Rufai confesses to wire-tapping Nigeria’s NSA on TV,” Onanuga tweeted.
“Does it mean that he and his collaborators have wire-tapping facilities? This should be thoroughly investigated and punishment meted out.
El-Rufai is not too big to face the wrath of the law.”
