Bayern Take Slim First-Leg Lead Over Real Madrid In Bernabéu Quarter-Final

Bayern Munich edge Real Madrid 2-1 as Harry Kane scores in tightly contested Champions League clash at Bernabéu

Bayern Munich claimed a narrow 2-1 advantage over Real Madrid in a thrilling Champions League quarter-final first leg at the Bernabéu with Harry Kane playing a decisive role on his return.

Watched by England head coach Thomas Tuchel, Kane was back in action after a minor issue had sidelined him for recent fixtures. The England captain had a quiet first half but contributed to the move that led to Bayern’s opener, as Luis Díaz finished calmly four minutes before the break.

Kane stepped up immediately after halftime, showing his quality with a clinical right-footed strike into the bottom corner, leaving Andriy Lunin with no chance.

Veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer produced a string of fine saves to preserve Bayern’s lead, including three crucial stops from Kylian Mbappé. Bayern, however, also created several chances in an open and high-tempo contest.

Real Madrid responded by introducing Jude Bellingham just after the hour mark, and the midfielder made an immediate impact with an energetic cameo. Trent Alexander-Arnold then delivered a superb low cross that Mbappé converted in the 74th minute to give the hosts hope.

Despite late pressure from Real Madrid, Bayern held firm to take a slender lead back to Munich for the decisive second leg.
