A newly married housewife has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for allegedly trying to kill her husband through food poisoning.
The incident occurred in Gwamma Village, Bauchi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, when the 18-year old housewife, Aisha Musa, attempted killing her husband who is said to have married her only 40 days earlier.
The Bauchi State Police Command, in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, said that an anonymous lady reported the incident to the Police.
Habib, a Superintendent of Police, said that operatives of ‘C’ Division Tafawa Balewa Estate swiftly responded to the scene and rushed the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for medical attention.
He said: “On 12th August, 2026 at about 1515hrs (3.15pm), the suspect, who is said to be a bride of about 40 days, allegedly introduced a poisonous substance into her husband’s meal.
“Subsequently, at about 1940hrs on the same day, a distress call was received from anonymous lady residing at Wunti Dada Area, Bauchi, reporting the incident to the Police.
“In a swift response, operatives of ‘C’ Division Tafawa Balewa Estate mobilized to the scene. Thereafter, the victim was immediately evacuated and rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, where he is currently receiving medical treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
“Furthermore, the suspect was promptly apprehended. During interrogation, she was cautioned and voluntarily made a confessional statement admitting to the commission of the offence.”
The Command’s Spokesman said that an empty bottle, suspected to contain poison and remnants of the food were recovered and duly registered as exhibits.
He said that the Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), for discreet and thorough investigation, adding that the suspect will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
“The Command therefore reiterates its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, and to the enforcement of law and order across the State. Members of the public are equally urged to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest Police Station,” he stated.
