An awkward moment between Nollywood stars Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham has stirred reactions online after a viral video showed what appeared to be a deliberate snub at a high profile movie premiere in Lagos.
The incident occurred on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the premiere of Iyabo Ojo’s film The Return of Arinzo, held at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island. Toyin Abraham approached a table where Funke Akindele was seated alongside Iyabo Ojo and Mercy Aigbe to greet them, but while others acknowledged her, Funke appeared to ignore the gesture.
In the circulating clip, Toyin was seen attempting to greet Funke as she bent slightly in greeting saying “Aunty Funke Ẹ káàsán, ma”, but Funke maintained a straight face without responding. The moment left Toyin visibly embarrassed, while Iyabo Ojo and Mercy Aigbe engaged her greeting.
The video has since generated widespread reactions across social media, with opinions sharply divided. Some users described the as moment a clear snub, while others argue it may have been misinterpreted, citing the chaotic and distracting nature of crowded premiere events.
The development has also reignited conversations around perceived rivalry between the two actresses, who are widely regarded as leading box office figures in Nollywood. While fans often frame their relationship as competitive, both have previously shared friendly public interactions, including dancing together at industry events.
Observers also pointed to their Instagram activity, noting that Toyin Abraham initially unfollowed Funke Akindele, with the latter reciprocating shortly after, further fueling speculation about a possible rift.
The incident comes amid lingering tensions in the industry following earlier controversies involving filmmaker Kunle Afolayan’s remarks on cinema earnings, which drew reactions from both actresses. Although no direct link has been officially established, some observers believe the background disputes may have influenced the atmosphere surrounding the encounter.
As of press time, neither Funke Akindele nor Toyin Abraham, as well as the event host Iyabo Ojo, have issued any official statements addressing the viral clip
