Attacks on EMS Personnel Disrupt Emergency Services in Johannesburg

Incidents of assault on EMS staff have disrupted emergency responses, leading to the temporary suspension of services in Johannesburg.

Service delivery by Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) was suspended due to repeated attacks on its staff, News24 reported.

This decision followed a recent incident where an EMS firefighter was hijacked and assaulted while on duty. The firefighter was assaulted and later abandoned in Meyerton in the Vaal Triangle, and the white Impendulo Nissan Combi was stolen by the hijackers.

Robert Mulaudzi, the Johannesburg EMS spokesperson, stated that the assaulted firefighter was traumatised and required time to recover at home with the necessary support.

Mulaudzi urged community residents to allow EMS staff to perform their duties without fear for their safety.
