Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, held a closed-door meeting with former military head of state, General Ibrahim Babangida on Tuesday, where he raised concerns about the country’s electoral system.
After the meeting, Atiku expressed apprehension over what he described as inconsistencies in the nation’s elections. He warned that the continued use of a hybrid system combining manual and electronic transmission of results by INEC could undermine public confidence and create confusion.
Speaking on the issue, Atiku said:
“The continued use of both manual and electronic systems in transmitting election results risks undermining public trust and creating confusion. The integrity of our elections must be preserved to ensure the people’s faith in the democratic process.”
He also urged opposition parties and leaders to unite, while highlighting efforts by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to strengthen its presence across the country.
Atiku added: “The African Democratic Congress is working assiduously to entrench its structures at the grassroots, state, and national levels. This is to ensure effective mobilisation and internal cohesion, so that our party can contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s democratic process.”
