Troops have dismantled a suspected kidnappers’ camp in Edimogbo Forest, Igalamela Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State, recovering ammunition, motorcycles and other logistics items.
In a statement, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 12 Composite Brigade, Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, said the operation followed credible human intelligence indicating the presence of suspected kidnappers in the forest. He said the criminals fled further into the forest on sighting the advancing troops, who subsequently pursued them and destroyed their hideout.
Items recovered include approximately one thousand rounds of 7.62-millimetre ammunition, seven bandoliers, six Daylong motorcycles, a mobile phone, a modem, and other items.
Although no further contact was made with the suspects, the Army said the destruction of the camp had denied the criminals a safe haven for their activities.
The Commander, 12 Composite Brigade, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, commended the troops for their prompt response, determination and resilience, urging them to sustain the operational tempo and remain vigilant in ongoing efforts to rid Kogi State of criminal elements.
The Nigerian Army reassures the good people of Kogi State of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property. Members of the public are also encouraged to continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies to support ongoing security operations.
