The Nigerian Army has arrested a 15-year-old suspect in connection with the killing of a senior military officer, Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, during a recent insurgent attack in Borno State.
The suspect, identified simply as Tijjani, was apprehended on Sunday at Ngamdu while reportedly on his way to purchase food supplies for members of his group. Military sources linked him to the coordinated assault that led to the death of Braimah and three other soldiers.
Braimah, who served as commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation Hadin Kai, was killed on Thursday when suspected Boko Haram fighters attacked a military base in the region.
In a video that surfaced online, Tijjani confirmed his arrest and provided details of his movements. Speaking in Hausa, he disclosed that he had participated in previous attacks in Benisheik and Ngamdu.
“Before the attack, we came from Jilli and returned there after the attack. I was sent from Jilli yesterday with N850,000 to collect some logistics from Ngamdu, but I was arrested by troops,” he said.
The teenager added that he had left other fighters behind in Jilli a day earlier but had no information on their current situation.
“Yesterday, I left my colleagues there. I don’t know what happened to them,” he stated.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to issue an official statement confirming the arrest or providing further operational details.
