ARISE News’ Ovieteme George Wins Outstanding News Report Award At Inaugural African Media Awards

ARISE News Ovieteme George has won the Outstanding News Report award at the inaugural African Media Awards

ARISE News journalist Ovieteme George has clinched the Outstanding News Report award at the inaugural African Media Awards held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

George, who was shortlisted as one of three finalists, shared the news in a post on X, expressing both excitement and regret that he could not attend the ceremony due to a fractured femur sustained during a football match between the NUJ and NCDMB teams.

“I got a notification from the organisers of the African Media Awards to come to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, as one of three finalists for the ‘Outstanding News Report’ category. Sadly, I couldn’t go because of a fractured femur during the NUJ vs NCDMB football match,” he wrote.

In his absence, his wife, Favour George, represented him at the event and received the award on his behalf, earning applause from attendees.

The African Media Awards, in their debut edition, aim to celebrate excellence in journalism across the continent, recognising outstanding work that highlights impactful storytelling, accountability and public interest reporting.

George’s win marks another milestone for ARISE NEWS and reinforces his reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading broadcast journalists.
