With Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf set to appoint a new Deputy Governor for Kano State, interest groups in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have contenued to push their preferred candidates for the vacant position, the second-highest office in the state.
The two political zones, Kano North and Kano South have been lobbying for their preferred candidates to balance strategic power dynamics ahead of the 2027 general election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) Legacy Bloc has thrown its weight behind Dr. Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi for the position of Deputy Governor, urging other aspirants with corruption allegations to step aside in the interest of integrity and public trust.
In a statement in Kano, a frontline member of the bloc, Magaji Umar Gwammaja, said the endorsement followed wide consultations among stakeholders after the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
Gwammaja described Bichi as “a candidate of exceptional maturity and administrative depth,” noting that his experience across state, federal and development institutions placed him ahead of other contenders.
“He possesses the competence, credibility and track record required to effectively support the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf,” he said.
The APC chieftain further stressed that the group’s position was guided by the need to uphold transparency in public office, calling on aspirants facing corruption-related allegations to voluntarily withdraw from the race.
“This is about protecting the integrity of governance. Those with unresolved issues should step aside to allow a credible process,” Gwammaja stated.
According to him, the bloc remained committed to ensuring that Kano State produced a Deputy Governor that can withstand public scrutiny and contribute meaningfully to governance.
