Senate President Godswill Akpabio cautioned against framing Nigeria’s security crisis as a conflict targeting Christians, arguing during Thursday’s plenary that terrorists and bandits strike citizens indiscriminately, regardless of their faith.

The motion sparked intense debate as lawmakers weighed national security narratives against reports of targeted attacks on religious communities.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu posthumously granted pardons to two historical figures, the “father of Nigerian nationalism” Herbert Macaulay and former FCT Minister Major General Mamman Vatsa, as part of a list of 175 people endorsed by the National Council of State.

Still in Abuja, retired police officers staged a protest at the National Assembly, blocking entrances to demand the payment of their outstanding pensions and gratuities.

It comes as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the Nigeria Police Training Institutions Establishment Bill into law, creating 48 training institutions across the country to professionalize and upgrade the force.
