A chilling documentary by an investigative journalist, Fisayo Soyombo which exposed a disturbing tale of baby trafficking concealed within the heart of a Christian Orphanage ‘Arrows of God’ has caught the attention of the Lagos State police command.
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project over the weekend, filed a lawsuit against Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas over the plan to spend N40b Naira on 465 exotic and bulletproof cars for members and principal officials of the senate as well as N70 billion Naira as palliatives for new members.
The suit is coming on the heels of Godswill Akpabio’s statement in which he revealed that the Clerk of the National Assembly had sent holiday allowances into the various bank accounts of senators.
SERAP is seeking an order to restrain Akpabio and Abbas from demanding or receiving the N40 billion Naira on exotic cars and other exorbitant expenses until an assessment of the socio-economic impact of the spending on millions of poor Nigerians is carried out in the interest of the public among other requests. In the same vein, Demonstrators trooped out in their numbers in Rivers state to protest over cost of living crisis.
The protesters were chanting the now famous quote by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu “let the poor breathe” which they turned into a song. Iruefi, the Managing Director of the prominent news outlet ‘Reportera’, has taken to social media platform Twitter to voice his concerns over the recent arrest of his brother. News Outlet, Reportera.NG has taken to social media to accuse the department of states services (DSS) of detaining Chike Victor Ibezim, brother of Nnamdi Ibezim who is the owner of the media outlet.
The arrest comes the wake of a lawsuit filed by Former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, against the media outlet, Journalist Jackson Ude and Yoruba Sheikh, for defamation and cyber-stalking. Reportera.NG claims that Chike Victor Ibezim, has been detained by the DSS for over 80 hours in the absence of this brother. Ahead of the visit by Top Nigerian Islamic clerics to Niger’s military coup leader Abdourahmane Tchiani as part of diplomatic efforts to intervene in the deadlock between the military junta and Ecowas, supporters of the Junta besieged the Nigerian Embassy in Niamey, in protests over the regional body’s decision to deploy military troops to restore constitutional order in the republic of Niger.
In the same vein, scores took to the streets of Kano State in Nigeria to kick against the mission. The protesters displayed Nigerien flags and placards in solidarity, chanting anti-military action songs. Their placards read: ‘War against Niger is injustice’. ‘It is the handiwork of America’. ‘It is the handiwork of Westerners’. ‘It is Islam that we want’. ‘It is justice that we want’. Niger is ours.
In a heartwarming display of celebration, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State took to the dance floor with Players of the Super Falcons, Rasheedat Ajibade and Rofiat Imuran both from Osun State. The trio danced to traditional Yoruba tunes at the governor’s residence in Ede.
