A political shake-up hit the Nigerian Senate after nine senators defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Senate President Godswill Akpabio confirmed the move, involving lawmakers from the PDP, Labour Party and APGA. Prominent defectors include Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Enyinnaya Abaribe, and Ireti Kingibe, who cited internal party crises.
However, drama followed immediately as the ADC Wuse Ward in the FCT announced Ireti Kingibe’s suspension just hours after her defection. The ADC national leadership quickly rejected the move, calling the suspension false.
Meanwhile in Abia State, activist Omoyele Sowore joined protesters in Aba demanding the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, who has been detained since 2021. Sowore urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to free Kanu, describing his detention as political persecution.
