Air Peace Wins Airline Of The Year As Onyema Named Top Aviation Executive At Nigeria International Air Show

Air Peace and its CEO Dr Allen Onyema receive top honours at the maiden Nigeria International Air Show in Abuja.

Air Peace Limited has continued its ascent in African aviation with dual recognition at the maiden Nigeria International Air Show held from December 2 to 4, 2025, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.

The carrier was honoured with the Airline of the Year Award, presented by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, in recognition of its rapid expansion and transformative impact on Nigeria’s aviation sector.

Since launching in 2014, Air Peace has grown from a modest fleet of Dornier 328s and Boeing 737s into one of the continent’s strongest operators, now flying widebody Boeing 777s, modern Embraer 195 E2 jets, and other aircraft that support its strategy for capacity growth and improved service.

The airline has also expanded its network significantly, including the landmark Lagos London Gatwick service in 2024.

In 2025, the airline further strengthened its international presence by inaugurating the first ever direct Abuja London Heathrow flight by a Nigerian airline. The milestone route has been celebrated as proof of the airline’s growing ability to compete globally.

These achievements underscored the judges’ decision to honour Air Peace for reshaping Nigeria’s aviation landscape, boosting connectivity and “restoring national pride in local carrier capability”.

In addition to the airline’s accolade, its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Allen Onyema, received the Aviation Executive of the Year Award. The presentation was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Dr Yakubu Adam Kofamata.

The award celebrates Onyema’s vision and leadership in driving Air Peace’s rise to the position of largest privately owned airline in West and Central Africa. Under his guidance, the company has created thousands of jobs while connecting underserved cities and expanding regional travel.

His role in re establishing direct international links was also highlighted. The Abuja London route, coming after the Lagos London Gatwick service, reflects what officials described as Onyema’s commitment to elevating Nigeria’s global aviation standing.

The recognition cements Air Peace’s stature as a leading African carrier and solidifies Onyema’s legacy as a pioneer in the aviation sector who has demonstrated that a Nigerian airline can thrive on the world stage.
