A video showing Air Peace staff applauding Nigerian military and police personnel before they boarded a flight in Abuja has sparked widespread appreciation from passengers and Nigerians online.
The security personnel were called forward to board the aircraft ahead of other passengers, as airline staff stood and applauded them while they made their way to the plane.
The gesture soon drew passengers into the moment, with travellers joining the applause in a spontaneous show of gratitude to the men and women serving in Nigeria’s security forces.
The initiative was introduced by Air Peace Chairman, Allen Onyema, as part of the airline’s efforts to recognise the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces and Police.
Under the initiative, military and police personnel are given priority boarding, while Air Peace staff stand and applaud them as they proceed to the aircraft.
The gesture is intended to recognise the sacrifices of security personnel who serve in challenging and, at times, dangerous environments while protecting lives, maintaining national security and preserving public order.
For some of the passengers, the moment offered an opportunity to publicly acknowledge personnel who often spend extended periods away from their families while carrying out their duties under difficult conditions.
The participation of other travellers turned what would ordinarily have been a routine boarding process into a brief display of appreciation and national solidarity.
The gesture also highlights the human side of military and police service, with security personnel often operating under demanding conditions while responding to Nigeria’s security challenges.
By applauding the personnel before take-off, the airline staff and passengers used the moment to recognise their service and sacrifices to the country.
