The Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, says his administration has constructed about 350 kilometres of roads across the state, while the state is yet to receive payment for nine federal road projects it completed.
Adeleke made the statement during the ARISE 2026 Governorship Election Town Hall, while responding to questions about the state of roads in Osun.
He said some of the roads being criticised were federal roads and should not be attributed to the state government.
“Well, number one, the road that you mentioned there is federal road. Go to Ife, Ife, the cradle of Yoruba land. Go and see the wonders that I’ve done.”
Adeleke said his administration had undertaken several federal road projects despite not receiving reimbursement from the Federal Government.
“So, if I should use all this money to start fixing federal roads, I’ll leave my own state, interstate. I’ve done about eight, nine. Up to now, I’ve not been paid.”
He said he had raised the issue with the Minister responsible for the projects.
“I’ve talked to the minister. I went to go visit him. I said, look, I’ve done this federal road. He said, no problem. He’s looking into it.”
The governor said the state had also delivered about 350 kilometres of roads across Osun.
“If you come to Osun, you will see that we have constructed about 350 kilometres of roads, you know, cut across.”
Adeleke also cited roads that had remained abandoned for several years before his administration intervened and have now been completed.
Adeleke said the state’s road infrastructure was particularly important because of its agricultural economy.
“Because in Osun state we are farmers. If we don’t have good roads, how are we going to have connectivity?”
He maintained that the federal road raised during the town hall should not be used to judge his administration’s performance on road infrastructure.
“It’s federal road. Ask me about Osun interstate and all that road. You will see that our administration have done very well.”
