Abuja Court Jails Ex-Power Minister Saleh Mamman 75 Years For N33.8bn Fraud

Federal High Court in Abuja sentences former Power Minister Saleh Mamman to 75 years for N33.8bn fraud case.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to 75 years in prison after convicting him on charges of money laundering and fraud involving N33.8 billion.

Mamman was found guilty on all 12 counts brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Delivering judgment, Justice James Omotosho held that the former minister would serve seven years imprisonment each on 10 of the counts, while he was also handed three years and two years respectively on counts four and five of the charge.

The court ordered that the sentences are to run consecutively, meaning the terms will be served back-to-back, with no option of fine except on count four, which carries a N10 million fine option.

In addition, the court directed the forfeiture of foreign currencies recovered from Mamman, alongside four properties in Abuja traced to him.

The conviction marks one of the most significant anti-corruption rulings involving a former cabinet official in recent years.
