Head of Product Management at Samsung Electronics West Africa, Stephen Okwara, has described the newly launched Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 as ‘a fusion of elegance, power, and productivity,’ highlighting their cutting-edge AI features, upgraded camera systems, and ultra-slim 4.2mm design as key innovations redefining the future of foldable smartphones.
Okwara,in an interview with ARISE News on Wednesday, disclosed the innovations of Samsung launching its latest foldable smartphones the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7—featuring a bold combination of artificial intelligence, premium hardware, and a thinner, more durable design.
He highlighted a historic milestone for the tech giant. He said,“Just last week, we launched the Fold 7, the Flip 7, and for the first time in Samsung history, we introduced the SE, the Fan Edition variant,” Okwara announced. “This model… can of course be described as a fusion of elegance, power, and productivity.”
Okwara explained that Samsung has advanced from AI assistants to full-fledged AI agents. “Earlier this year, we transitioned from the device being an AI assistant to the AI agent that can actually preempt the action and then make suggestions for you. These are all technological advancements,” he said.
He described the Fold 7 as the culmination of these breakthroughs. “Imagine having all these enhancements… all infused or encased in a product that is just 4.2 millimetres thin. When it comes to hardware configuration, there is also a significant upgrade in terms of the camera. We bumped it up from 50 megapixels to a whopping 300 megapixels with all the AI enhancements.”
On durability, Okwara confirmed improvements to the hinge and screen. “We focused more on three structural aspects… we fortified \[the hinge], made it a lot stronger and a lot better compared to the previous model. It’s about 15% stronger than the previous one,” he said. “We now have a ceramic coating on the screen itself. It’s now more than five times stronger and more powerful than the previous model.”
Okwara said the device also features a ceramic-coated back cover and reinforced aluminium frame: “It’s literally more durable, more powerful, stronger, even though it is slimmer than the previous model.”
He noted that prioritising hardware innovation was a deliberate strategy. “Consumers are not just interested in smart intelligence. They want intelligence that can mirror their real-world experiences in real time,” he said. “Basically, only smartphones can gather all that information and process it securely on-device… Without the hardware evolution, AI would not be able to deliver on those fantastic benefits.”
Comparing the new foldables to the Galaxy S25 series, Okwara said both serve different needs. “For those who want a powerful device with upgraded cameras… they go for the S series. But when you want to move your productivity to the next level, you then start looking at the portable series,” he said. “With the Galaxy S47, we are gradually bridging that gap… all the camera functionality, the AI enhancement… have actually been infused and integrated on the portable series.”
Security remains a top priority, he said, especially in an era of rising cybercrime. “Samsung is taking that aspect very seriously,” Okwara stated. “We leveraged our already existing NOX security… with the inclusion of the NOX metrics and the personal data engine… everything that you’re doing, that’s already good.”
Okwara added that all user data is processed directly on the device, and only uploaded with permission. “Even when you do that, it is end-to-end encrypted… So while you are doing your stuff, you’re not necessarily exposed or vulnerable.”
The devices are already available across Samsung-authorised stores in Nigeria. “Walk into any store, any of our local stores in Nigeria… and you can get your device,” Okwara said. “There are payment options, payment plans available. You can pay small, small.”
He also confirmed a trade-in programme—open to both Samsung and non-Samsung devices—as well as a generous pre-order offer. “For the first time, when you pre-order this product, we are giving gift items worth over ₦1.2 million,” he said. “We are giving you Samsung Music Frame… a home theatre that displays your family photos, connects to multiple devices… The value is ₦650,000.”
Buyers also get a free case, adapter, and Samsung Care+, which covers screen repair costs by over 96% for one year. “If you spend up to ₦3.7 million and life happens… instead of paying ₦750,000 to get your screen fixed, you are paying just a token of ₦45,000. It’s like an insurance,” he explained.
Okwara concluded, “It’s a world of limitless possibilities with this product… your pocket diary, your pocket computer… all in one.”
