EXCERPT: APM candidate Seyi Makinde criticises Tinubu’s economic policies and promises a four-year reset focused on security and growth.
Oyo State Governor who is also the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement APM, Seyi Makinde, has faulted Nigeria’s economic hardship under President Bola Tinubu’s ladministration.
He also reiterated his commitment to fight banditry, kidnapping, and other criminal activities that have continued to ravage the nation’s socio-economy development, if he wins the 2027 presidential election.
Makinde, while speaking at the North Central Town Hall meeting in Lafia, the Nasarawa state capital, called on Nigerians to become “Resetters,”, adding that the proposed four-point reset agenda of his campaign was designed to tackle the major challenges facing the country and create conditions for citizens to have better opportunities and improved living standards.
The APM Presidential Candidate expressed worry that over the years, the All Progressives Congress APC, led administration has disorganized the country with its hard policies which has increased the hardship and of the citizens.
He, however, blamed the Tinibu administration for not planning its budget well before setting-up military formations to fight insecurity, noting that the 2027 presidential election will not be determined about how much billions a candidate can spend to get the support of the electorate.
He said the 2027 election will not be determined by pundits or by how much billions the APC can spend. According to the APM presidential candidate, the election will be determined by the people.
His words, “We are before you to tackle the challenges faced by this country through our reset agenda. I am a resetter. Together, we shall reset this country. But listen to me very carefully, the reset agenda can be concluded in four years.
“After all, we had somebody who was Head of State in this country for 10 months, and he was able to end military rule and usher in the democracy that we now enjoy in Nigeria.
“So, we can reset this country and give Nigeria a new security architecture, reset and give Nigeria a new path for education, reset our economy utilising data, science, and logic, and reset our socio-political environment in four years. That is our agenda.
“So, as your President from May 29, 2027, we will run a transitional government of national unity that will culminate in new players and a new agenda for Nigeria’s sustainable development.”
On his part, the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle stated that the persistent security challenges in the country is worrisome, asserting that if the Presidential Candidate of the party is elected in 2027, the issue of kidnapping and banditry will be a thing of the past.
He, then urged the electorates in Nasarawa and other states of the North Central region to support the Seyi Makinde’s presidential bid in order to reset Nigeria and put the country on the right path.
Earlier, Ogoshi Onawo, the Nasarawa State Governorship Candidate of the APM and Senator Representing Nasarawa South at the National Assembly, who spoke on behalf of all candidates of the party, pledged to mobilise support for Makinde to ensure his landslide victory in the 2027 presidential election.
According to him, “Your Excellency sir, as we support you, we are going to give you all we have to support you to become the next President of this country. We are going to join you to reset Nigeria.
“As I said, this next election is not about party. It is about the growth of Nigeria. The beautiful people of Nigeria do not deserve to be this hungry. We have all it takes to be one of the best countries in the world,” Onawo concluded.
Our correspondent reports that the Vice Presidential Candidate of the APM, Lawal Dauda, Governorship candidates from states in the North Central and other stakeholders and members of the party were present during the meeting.
