Police arrest 19-year-old man accused of chasing a victim with a toy pistol during an alleged robbery attempt in Katsina.

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 19-year-old teenager, Aliyu Sani, for alleged impersonation and attempting to rob an unidentified person with a toy pistol in Katsina metropolis.

The command, in a Monday’s statement by its Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, said the suspect was arrested on August 22, 2026, at Kofar Sauri, Katsina.

The statement said the police received information at about 7:00 p.m. that the suspect was chasing a yet-to-be-identified person while pointing the toy pistol at the victim, allegedly with the intention of robbing him.

It further explained that the police operatives, working in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group, swiftly responded to the report and arrested the suspect at about 8:00 p.m. on the same day.

According to the statement, a search of the suspect during the arrest led to the recovery of the black toy pistol in his possession without satisfactory explanation on how he obtained the recovered exhibit.

“The suspect was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation during the initial interrogation regarding how he obtained the exhibit. The suspect is currently in custody as the investigation proceeds”, the statement added.

The statement quoted the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, as commending members of the community and the local vigilante group for their vigilance and cooperation with the police.

According to the statement, Fage urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest police station to help curb crime and criminality across the state.
