Since 2017, the International Organization for Migration has voluntarily assisted 16,000 Nigerian migrants in a safe return home from Libya. Many Nigerians hoping for greener pastures in Europe have embarked on life threatening journeys through Libya, where they are often stranded, subjected to human rights abuses and unable to leave.

On Tuesday, March 15th, the 94th charter flight for voluntary returnees organized by the IOM with support from the European Union, landed in Lagos with 162 Nigerians on board. ARISE Correspondent Laila Johnson-Salami sends in this report on the EU-IOM initiative and the experiences of Nigerian migrants returning from Libya.
